Two wonderful wahine who have been an integral part of the Silver Scroll Awards in the past are playing pivotal roles in this year’s ceremony.
APRA AMCOS NZ are honoured to announce that Bic Runga is taking the helm as Music Director this year. The Music Director is responsible for all the performances throughout the ceremony – performances that have become somewhat legendary over the years – and Bic’s musical pedigree is hard to argue with, but it’s her enthusiasm for creating a show with emotional resonance which is very exciting.
On the night the five Silver Scroll finalists’ songs, as well as the winners of the Maioha and SOUNZ Contemporary awards, and a tribute to the NZ Music Hall of Fame inductee are reinterpreted by different artists, bands, and once-in-a-lifetime, one-off collaborations.
“I've always wanted to have the chance to be the music director for the scrolls. I'm working hard on it now and so far it's put me in touch with so many great artists I've admired but not yet met” Bic explains. “But most of all it's a celebration of our great songwriting talent. The finalist works are all incredible. My job is to have them reinterpreted by other artists and honour the songwriting itself. I'm having such a great time with this already.”
And APRA AMCOS NZ are equally thrilled to announce that Anika Moa has agreed to work her cheeky magic as the 2018 MC. Moa’s effortless hosting abilities, easy charm, and sharp tongue made her an obvious choice, but it’s her experience as a beloved musician, and deep appreciation for the work of songwriters that made her perfect for the role. We look forward to some unexpected musical excerpts from her throughout the evening.
“I am looking forward to standing in front of my musical peers and talking their ears off!” Anika says. “There is no doubt I will be offensive, rude, and cheeky but I also endeavour to be articulate, wise and singing LOTS AND LOTS on the night! May the best songwriter win (I have been robbed many times of this award so I have a slight desire for revenge in me) and may the night be a roaring-wāhine-powered-MC successful event! Now, leave me alone I need to meet with Ricky Gervais to go over my script.”
The finalists for the SOUNZ Contemporary Award, APRA Screen Awards, APRA Maioha Award, and APRA Silver Scroll Award have all been recently announced.
All awards will be presented during a ceremony at Spark Arena in Auckland on Thursday October 4th. As a part of the celebrations, APRA will also be inducting a songwriter/s into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
Radio New Zealand will broadcast and live video stream the APRA Silver Scroll Awards ceremony on RNZ National, and online at www.rnz.co.nz/music.<... awards are proudly supported by Hallertau Brewery, and Soho Wines.
