Auckland Council's draft budget for 2023/24 proposes to cut $36.5M from regional arts, events, and community initiatives. This puts the music community at risk while most of our people and businesses are still recovering from the impacts of COVID-19 and more recently, Cyclone Gabrielle.
The budget outlines reductions to Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and Regional Services such as music programmes, community development groups, regional events, social services and local board funding to Eke Panuku Development Auckland Limited. This will have long-term negative impacts on our music community and under-represented groups, sending Tāmaki Makaurau backwards socially and economically.
