To The Front Tāmaki Makaurau Intern Programme

Story Published Friday 22 July 2022

To The Front Tāmaki Makaurau - Girls Rock Aotearoa Presents: Pathways in Music in Aotearoa.

Girls Rock Aotearoa is a non-profit organisation, made up of musicians and music lovers. We are committed to guiding the advancement and empowerment of youth through music. We have helped young women, trans, intersex, takatāpui and gender diverse youth to explore music and build confidence since 2018 and this year we are expanding to host a To The Front Tāmaki Makaurau intern programme! The purpose of the intern programme is to create a supportive community of young performers and music fans, and to create connections with the music industry through a series of workshops and events. Our interns (aged 16-20 yrs) are talented and engaged youth with a passion for music.

To kick off our intern programme in the leadup to our To The Front Tāmaki Makaurau 2023 programme, we are proud to present Pathways in Music, a day of workshops covering pathways in music after high school in Aotearoa. These moderated panels will be held on Saturday August 6th at Roundhead Studios and will cover two main themes.

In the morning session we will explore how to get your song out of your bedroom and into the world. Later in the afternoon we will look at jobs, roles and communities within the music sector that exist beyond high school

Girls Rock Aotearoa presents:

To The Front programmes for 2022 in Pōneke (Wellington) and Te Papaioea (Palmerston North).

We are blown away by the response to our announcement of two new condensed To The Front programmes for 2022 in Pōneke (Wellington) and Te Papaioea (Palmerston North). Spaces to participate in our Pōneke programme are almost full.

These three-day weekend programmes take everything that’s made our week-long programmes so successful and give us the opportunity to offer it in new locations across Aotearoa, at new times of the year, and for participants who might not be able to commit to a full week To The Front experience.

Participants take part in workshops, band practices, and instrument lessons - at the end of the week they perform in a concert for friends and family.

To The Front Pōneke will be held Labour Weekend Saturday 22nd to Monday 24th October 2022. Once again the programme will be hosted by our key sponsor, College of Creative Arts, Massey University Wellington, letting us take advantage of their cutting-edge studio spaces and equipment.

We are looking for: Instrument tutors! Band Mentors! Workshop facilitators! Welfare team! Volunteers! Coordinators!

We still have space available for youth participants in Te Papaioea and limited funded spaces for our Pōneke programme.

To the Front Pōneke Applications are open now!

To The Front Te Papaioea 2022 begins on Friday afternoon October 7th, running through to Sunday October 9th, with a showcase the following Friday October 14th as a part of Swampfest Festival.
