Equity at APRA AMCOS

Reconciliation

  • APRA AMCOS’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP): “Notes of Time” featuring artwork by Bundjalung artist, Christine Slabb, was launched at an event in February 2024. Launch highlights included a hosted conversation with Christine and performances from Birren and Deline Briscoe. Since the launch, Jason Timor of Stonecrab Consulting has partnered with us to develop an Indigenous Engagement and Employment Strategy, a RAP commitment.
  • In March, the APRA Board farewelled Catherine Satour and Fred Leone as inaugural NATSIMO Board Observers and welcomed Deline Briscoe and Nathan May for 2024.
  • In October 2023, APRA AMCOS partnered with Support Act’s First Nations team to deliver Voices Amplified equity and inclusion training to members of the APRA Culture and Inclusion, and RAP working groups.
  • APRA AMCOS staff participated in events to mark National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week 2024, including conversations and performances by Gumbaynggir and Yaegl singer/songwriter, Maanyung.
  • NATSIMO staff and APRA AMCOS Senior Management attended a five-day Immersion program in August 2024 to immerse themselves in the Indigenous culture of the Top End and engage with members who have published works using Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property.

Equity & Inclusion

  • Shared in February 2024, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency Statement highlighted the results of our Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) 2023 report. APRA AMCOS’ Median Gender Pay Gap reduced to 13.8%, significantly lower than the industry median of 24.5%, and the representation of women in management roles increased from 44% to 54%.
  • APRA AMCOS ran mandatory Positive Duty Masterclasses for senior management and Board Directors covering Respect@Work legal obligations and practical implementation, roles in prevention and trauma-informed responses, and leading practice application of the Respect@Work Framework.
  • For International Women’s Day 2024, we hosted a panel on the day chaired by music journalist, Sosefina Fuamoli, to discuss the theme “Count Her In, Invest In Her.” The panel featured APRA AMCOS members who have benefited from programs like Songmakers, Women in Music mentoring and SongHubs.

The principles are Relationships, Representation & Self-determination, Consent, Co-design and Collaboration and Accessibility.
  • We received approval from the NSW Attorney General for exemptions under section 126A of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 to continue offering mentorship programs for women/women-identifying songwriters and to fill all positions within NATSIMO for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only.
  • Other activity included the Ripple Internship Program, Supplier Diversity updates to the Procurement Policy and the Modern Slavery Statement 2023.
