Event Published Monday 3 August 2026

APRA AMCOS Aotearoa are delighted to bring a special songwriting event to Tāmaki: an evening of reflection, inspiration, and conversation with Sir Dave Dobbyn.

As APRA marks our 100th birthday in 2026, it seems like a great moment to dive into a kōrero with someone who has made such an impact on songwriting in Aotearoa.

A beloved icon, Dave has written the soundtrack to kiwi lives. Beside You, Be Mine Tonight Language, Outlook for ThursdayIt Dawned On MeSlice of Heaven, Welcome Home.…the list goes on. He’s a true ‘songwriter’s songwriter’, and in this special conversation, Dave will be sharing tales of his career, as well as the stories behind some of his favourite work, and the inspiration of Aotearoa - the people and the place - and how that has changed over the decades.

He will be speaking with Mike Hall (songwriter, bass player, and Director of Member Services for APRA AMCOS Aotearoa), and will be covering different phases of his musical life, as well as topics like writers block and collaboration. We also welcome APRA members to submit suggested questions via the RSVP form.

Tickets available to APRA members for free.

Please head to the link below and RSVP for yourself (and a guest if you wish to bring one). Limited capacity so don't delay.

Weds 19 August | Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

We look forward to celebrating our 100th birthday with you at this special event at the Hollywood Theatre in Avondale.
