Scam Email Alert: Fraudulent Emails Circulating

Tip Published Wednesday 21 May 2025
Scam alert!

We’ve been alerted to phishing emails being sent to members of the public, falsely claiming to represent various legal firms and citing APRA AMCOS and other music related businesses in the email body. Please be aware these messages are fraudulent and may contain dangerous malware.

What to Watch For:

  • Emails may claim to be cease and desist notices or copyright infringement warnings.
  • Some falsely reference law firms and other legal representatives.
  • The emails may contain logos or branding, but the email address often comes from a free email provider like Gmail.
  • They may ask you to click a link to a “PDF” or download a file — do not click or download anything as these may contain malware.

Important:

  • APRA AMCOS has not suffered a data breach.
  • We will never send legal notices from a non-official email domain.

What You Should Do:

  • Do not click on any links or open attachments from suspicious emails.
  • Report the scam to us at: [email protected] with details of the sender and contents
  • Delete the email.
  • If you clicked a link or downloaded a file, run a virus scan or contact your IT support team.

Stay Safe:

  • Always check the sender’s email address carefully.
  • Be cautious with unexpected messages, especially those with urgent or threatening language.

Your digital safety is important to us — thank you for staying alert.
