New Cinema licensing arrangement from 1 July 2025
Historically, music licensing for cinemas required separate licences from APRA for the use of musical works, and from Recorded Music NZ for the use of sound recordings.
Following consultation and feedback received from Cinema Exhibitors across the motu, from 1 July 2025, our two organisations have combined our Cinema licensing under OneMusic – the joint licensing initiative designed to simplify the process of music licensing for New Zealand businesses.
For current Cinema licence holders, there will be no change to the rights licensed by APRA or Recorded Music NZ, including no change to the rates you pay for either licence. They will simply be consolidated into one licence, via one itemised invoice, administered by OneMusic.
New customers can apply for a Cinema Music Licence by visiting OneMusic
