APRA AMCOS currently has one license of games music in place, known as the PlayStation Network (PSN) License.
This license looks to collect royalties for music used within a game that is available for download on the PlayStation store. It was modelled after PRS’ Pan-European PSN License. The data provided to us via our members is also used to process equivalent periods for the Australian and New Zealand PlayStation License we administer.
APRA AMCOS is currently in discussion with multiple entities throughout the gaming industry in the aim of securing more licensed platforms.
In 2021, APRA AMCOS commissioned Arts Law to create template exclusive licensing agreements which allow members to retain their copyright while still granting all of the necessary rights game developers need exclusively.
This sample Music Commission Agreement for Games should be used when a game developer wants a composer, musician or band either to create original music for use in the developer’s game or to adapt existing music into a new composition or arrangement.
Bespoke sync licenses for AMCOS members can be provided if required.
